A Few Tricks That Make House Cleaning Easier

The Maids • May 24, 2013

Nobody wants house cleaning to be a chore—when cleaning feels exhausting and overwhelming, it just doesn’t get done! You have better ways to spend your time than cleaning, so consider calling maid services or finding more efficient ways to clean.

Supply Yourself

Before you start cleaning, make sure you have all the supplies you will need. The simpler, the better, and you’ll find that vinegar, baking soda, and lemons can play a big role in paring down the cleaners you use!

Even if you use pre-mixed cleaners from the store, find a really good all-purpose cleaning solution that will work across a multitude of rooms and surfaces. The fewer cleaning goods you have, the better!

Once you have a few strong cleaning tools, create a caddy for yourself. Any kind of container with a handle will do. Keep in it the things you use most, like:

  • General, all-purpose cleaning solution.
  • Rags/sponges/scrubbers.
  • Microfiber cloths.
  • Gloves.

This will keep you from running back and forth looking for different cleaning tools and make cleaning that much easier and faster.

Be Unconventional

There are a lot of unconventional ways to clean things. Think beyond what you know and make use of the internet’s insightful (if sometimes questionable!) ideas. Try these three tricks the next time you’re cleaning:

  • Remove scuff marks off the floor by using a tennis ball like an eraser.
  • Ball up a piece of sandwich bread and do the same thing to crayon marks on the wall.
  • Sprinkle baking soda onto burnt-on food in your oven or stove top, spritz with water, and wipe clean a couple of hours later.

Don’t be afraid to try something new that could cut your cleaning time in half!

Make a Plan

Whatever that plan entails—focusing on tasks, making a to-do list, timing yourself as you clean—make a plan that works for you.

When you go into cleaning with a plan, you’ll be more prepared and committed to finishing what you start, and that’s a big part of getting your home really clean!
