Three Gross Cleaning Jobs & How to Take Them On

The Maids • Apr 30, 2013

There are a few certain house cleaning jobs in the house no one wants to tackle. They get looked over and brushed off until they become unavoidable. You can keep this from happening to you by taking on some of the harder jobs when you have the time to do it.

Toilet

You'd have a hard time finding someone who gets genuinely excited to clean the bathroom, so what can you do to get through it as quickly as possible? Getting the toilet clean without much work is a good start! Try this:

  • Pour a mixture of vinegar and baking soda into the toilet.
  • Close the bathroom door and dare anyone to mess with it for 30 minutes.
  • Come back and scrub it clean with a toilet brush.

That's it! Three steps and just a little tiny bit of scrubbing will get you toilet looking great.

Bathroom Faucet

Depending on the water in your house, your bathroom faucets have probably collected deposits of hard water minerals or limescale, not to mention water spots and finger prints! That build up tends to be extremely hard to clean as it hardens.

Thankfully, it's an easy fix:

  • Pour vinegar over the faucets.
  • Wrap in paper towels or toilet paper.
  • Remove paper and wipe clean with a wet cloth.

It seems too good to be true, but this trick is actually effective.

Trash Can

Ah, the trash can. After a scuffle over who's going to take it out resulting in a bag of trash thrown forcefully into a dumpster or large garbage can, you might expect the house to smell better. Sometimes, though; the odor remains. How can you break it?

There are two things you can do:

  • Wash the trash can with soap and water and leave in the sun to dry.
  • Add baking soda to the bottom of your trash cans before you put the bags in. It will absorb the odors, including the ones you thought you'd never get rid of!

Which tasks are your least favorite, and how do you decide what to do first?
